Welcome to Summer!
Plant lovers unite! The summer is heating up: with long warm days for spending outside, the garden teases all our senses. At the same time it demands watering, weeding, planting and pruning to keep it healthy and vibrant throughout the summer, so the ‘little and often approach’ tends to apply. Whether you’re just pottering, hosting barbecues, tending the veg, or simply enjoying your beds and borders as they reach their peak, here at Barnby we have an extensive range of plants to maximise your garden’s full potential.

Garden Centre and Plant Nursery Trainee Wanted!
An opportunity has arisen for a plant nursery traineeship within our Beccles based garden centre. The ideal trainee will have an evident passion for plants, clear enthusiasm to pursue a career in the gardening or horticultural sector, and will be ready to demonstrate the determination, motivation and initiative required to learn all aspects of garden centre and plant nursery operations. No previous experience is required but an active interest in plants and gardening as part of your current lifestyle would be a strong advantage. You may for example, have volunteered in community gardening projects or contributed time and effort into tending an allotment or green space, with an appreciation of the practical skills involved. You will also be someone with good organisational skills, able to follow instructions precisely and to complete given tasks in a prompt and efficient manner.
Responsibilities will include assisting the Nursery Manager with the day-to-day running of the nursery – growing of fruit, vegetable and ornamental plants and all aspects of garden retailing to include propagating, potting up, weeding, watering, organising and displaying plants ready for sale, and in time, maintaining areas of the nursery designated to you and communicating effectively with customers. You will be willing to acquire knowledge of plant names, specific plant care, and to gain experience in all areas of plantsmanship as part of your role. You will comply with the core values of the business in providing a high calibre of service to our customers.
Benefits to yourself include training as part of a small, dedicated team in an encouraging work atmosphere, with the satisfaction of gaining a range of transferrable skills, practice and preparation for future opportunities and to provide you with meaningful feedback, developing many options for a career in the gardening and horticultural sector.
This is for a minimum of 6 months, paid position with irregular hours to suit the season. If interested, please contact Darren at dforsterbnc@gmail.com to arrange an informal interview and possible trial session.
